Usage Terms

The photographs, moving images, sound and other Content on the “Digitizing Our Shared UNESCO History” website may be used to further the aims and work of UNESCO. All Content shown on the website are the exclusive or non-exclusive property of UNESCO or of third parties and copyright holders.

Prior written permission is required to reproduce the Content from this website in print or electronic format in low or high resolutions, including CDs, DVDs, web sites, videos, exhibits, etc. Such permissions are granted on a one-time non-exclusive basis and may be renewed. Other use of any or all Content requires a separate request for authorization from UNESCO. No rights granted to the requestor may be assigned, loaned or transferred to any third party.

Content and/or related metadata may not be archived in any digital asset management system or database without the prior approval of UNESCO. Use of Content in a manner that is contrary to a restriction stated in this notice is prohibited. Any defamatory, libelous or otherwise unlawful use of Content is prohibited.

Content cannot be used for advertising, marketing or in ways inconsistent with the Organization's mission. Content shown on the website cannot be altered, sold, sublicensed, redistributed, or used to create derivative works.

Should you wish to obtain licensing permission to reproduce Content of the website, including photographs, moving images, and sound, in low or high resolution, please fill out the contact form, indicating the item Barcode(s) and the intended use of the Content. The request must also state the requestor’s name(s), the name of the organisation or the company, their address and their email address. Third party permission forms are not accepted.

The person, company or organisation that has received via email the permission to reproduce Content of the website whether in print, electronic or online format must always give credit by mentioning the following obligatory copyright notice adjacent to each item, in the format © UNESCO/Photographer for photographs and © UNESCO for moving images, sound and other Content.

Written permission is, however, not required for reproduction of Content as allowed by statutory exemptions (e.g. UN-affiliated non-governmental organizations and United Nations Associations, UN system organizations, including Specialized Agencies) or Fair Use (Fair Use applies solely to scholarly, academic, non-profit, or journalistic use of properly credited UNESCO photographs, moving images, sound and other Content.).

 

Cultural Sensitivity

We warn that there may be Content and metadata on the website containing words and descriptions that may be culturally sensitive and which might not normally be used in certain public or community contexts. Terms and annotations that reflect the attitude of the author or the period in which the item was created may be considered inappropriate today.
